Ready, Set, Shoot: Ecommerce Photography Tips

Selling clothes online is a great way to get your product out to a large number of customers at once. The only problem is, your customers can't see or feel the clothing as they could in a shop! But don't worry, there are excellent ways you can make the experience just as immersive for them through the photography you showcase. Here are just a few ways you can make the most out of your eCommerce fashion photoshoot!

Hire the Right Model

While using a mannequin or using a clothes hanger might save you some money, invest in what a model can bring to your photoshoot. Not only will a model better show off your clothing, but they will also help draw in more customers by offering a personal touch. Use a model that exemplifies who your target consumer group is. If you're selling clothes that are geared towards a younger demographic, hire a model that is within that specific age group. Hiring the right model for the shoot will help your customers identify with who is wearing the clothes, allowing them to easier imagine themselves donning your products!

Set the Mood

While the clothes you offer will do a great job selling themselves, boost up your sales even more by setting the right mood in your pictures. For clothing geared towards those who enjoy the outdoors, for example, set your photoshoot in a park or nearby trail. Have your model act as though they are setting out on a day hike all while showing off the clothes to bring attention to the comfort and style. On the other hand, you might want to go for a minimalistic look. This works especially well for clothing that showcases neutral or earthy tones. In this case, a simple white background would work perfectly! Whatever your setting, ensure that lighting is even and ample to give your clothes the best visibility.

Picture Perfect Clothes

Before you start snapping photos, you'll want to give your clothes a thorough once-over to ensure they look absolutely perfect. This means removing any frayed edges and visible strings and repairing any areas that need attention. Use a portable steam wand to steam clean your clothing; this will guarantee that your clothes are wrinkle-free and fall on the model as they should. Remember that how your model displays the clothes also matters a great deal to those who are shopping online. Since your customers cannot see your clothes in person, encourage your model to pose in a variety of ways that show off the clothing as much as possible. A full A-line skirt, for example, can be lifted gently on one side to show the pattern and size.
